What is the Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters?

The Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree or EMJMD is the perfect opportunity to learn and develop yourself through new experiences in several European countries.

The Erasmus Mundus program is a new initiative and part of the Erasmus+ Programs. Please do not confuse it with the Erasmus Mundus project in 2013.

The Erasmus Mundus program is a highly rated international study program offered by European higher education institutions. The accepted applicants spend the study period in at least two countries.

Many experts consider the Erasmus Mundus program one of the best Master’s scholarships ever. Not only is it open to any applicant in the world, but the scholarship covers the tuition fee, living costs, and health insurance.

The students receive much help from their universities, like finding housing or visa-related matters. Grantees of the Erasmus Mundus program are enrolled in anywhere from two to four universities during two years Master’s programs.

They can choose to study in Europe and all parts of the world. They also benefit from language courses, free of charge in all countries.

For each university in the Erasmus Mundus scholarship program, between 10 and 20 international students may receive a scholarship for each input session.

Erasmus Mundus program distinguishes two types of scholarship:

  • Program country scholarships are for:
    • Students whose nationality is one of the Erasmus+ Program Countries
    • Students from countries not part of the European Union or the EFTA or EEA.
    • Students that have not lived and have carried out their main activity in EU or EFTA or EEA countries for more than a year over the last five years.
    • Students that had never received an Erasmus+ scholarship for the Master’s study program.
  • Partner country scholarships are for:
    • All other students not eligible for Erasmus Mundus program country scholarship.

Subjects in Erasmus Mundus Program

Every applicant is allowed to apply to a maximum of three programs per cycle at present. There are over 120 Erasmus Mundus Master’s courses, including:

  • Politics,
  • Chemistry,
  • Computing,
  • Smart Energy,
  • Human Rights,
  • Computer Science,
  • Engineering,
  • Economics,
  • Business,

Each Master’s has a different consortium of universities that made it. It is important not to choose the Master’s based on the countries it takes place in, but following the applicant’s area of interest.

Find a Master’s in your area of interest that also takes you to many countries and gives you a lot of opportunities.

EMJMD Scholarships

The most significant advantage of taking an EMJMD is that they cover the most costs. This student grant covers the participation costs, a monthly allowance for living costs, a contribution to travel, and installation costs.

Each grantee receives EUR 1000 per month for living costs during the 24 months program. The Erasmus Mundus Program provides full-time scholarships covering:

  • Monthly allowance,
  • Participation costs,
  • Insurance fee,
  • Travel fees.

Scholarship amounts may vary according to:

  • The level of studies,
  • The duration of studies,
  • The scholar’s nationality.

The scholarship also contributes to travel, installation, and other costs in two installments.

The Euro culture participation costs EUR 9000 for EU students and 18000 for non-EU students, including health insurance coverage for 24 months.

The Erasmus Mundus program takes between 12 to 24 months to complete, which is very common for a Master’s Program.

Grantees have plenty of time to study in the university and explore Europe’s culture, landscapes, and ancient history.

Every applicant must be admitted to one of the given courses and then be selected for a scholarship to receive this financial support. The grant depends on the period of the program and the applicant’s country of origin.

The monthly allowance is not given to scholarship holders from a Partner Country for the EMJMD periods exceeding three months spent in any Partner Country.

International students from partner countries who have carried out their primary activity for more than a year in the last five years in one of the program countries are considered Program country applicants according to the 12-months rule.
