They grade both exams on a 9-score scale, meaning you will receive a score from 1 to 9 for each section, and the average of this score will form your overall IELTS score.

GRE or Graduate Record Examinations, One of the English Language Proficiency Tests

The GRE (Graduate Record Examination) is not just a language test but more a logic test. It has nothing to do with the IELTS and TOEFL, and we can’t count it directly as one of the English language proficiency tests or Exams.

There are two types of GRE test, General and Subject. The main exam is the general test, and the subject test is a side one. This test consists of six sections, in which you will encounter verbal, quantitative, and analytical writing questions.

The GRE test will test you on three topics: verbal reasoning, quantitative reasoning, and Analytical Writing Assessment (AWA).

This test is very time-consuming. You will be involved in more than 4 hours with the whole exam process from authentication to polls and choosing universities to report the score.

How to calculate the GRE score is not explicitly known. It’s based on algorithms that are not accessible. The GRE test is computer-adaptive; the answer you give to the first section of each section determines the second section’s difficulty.

The GRE test is typically considered more difficult compared to other similar exams. But you can find some tips and also great resources to conquer GRE in our articles.

GMAT or Graduate Management Admission Test

Like GRE, the GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) is also not a language test per se, but a logic test, and we can’t count it directly as one of the English language proficiency tests or Exams.

They designed it to predict how students will perform academically in MBA programs. Graduate business schools use the GMAT test scores to make admission decisions.

The GMAT has four sections, including analytical writing assessment, integrated reasoning, quantitative reasoning, and verbal reasoning.

The quantitative and verbal reasoning parts of the GMAT test each begin with a question of average difficulty. Then, the questions continuously vary in difficulty, depending on a student’s accuracy, experts say. So, if the test-taker gets a question right, a more challenging problem usually appears next.

However, if you can’t answer a question correctly, the next question will be more straightforward. By the end of the exam, the computer calculates a score based on whether the test-taker could respond to tough questions accurately. This is called computer-adaptive GMAT.

The score is between 200 to 800 on a 10-points scale and is determined by a combination of scores in the test’s verbal and quantitative parts.

The most respected business schools try to be based on the candidate’s performance from the score, being one of the most critical elements.

During the PTE test session, there are three main parts: speaking and writing together, listening, and reading. The PTE Academic Score Report includes your total score, communicative skills scores, and enabling skills scores.

The PTE, like IELTS, offers an Academic test, but there are some differences between them. The main difference is that IELTS offers a choice between a paper-based test or a computer-delivered exam, but the PTE test is all computer-based and marked by a machine.

IELTS’s speaking part is a face-to-face talk with an examiner, but you speak to the computer in the PTE exam.

The total score reflects your English language ability. This score is based on your overall performance on all items in the exam. The range for the overall score is 10 to 90 points.
